HC Deb 14 March 1916 vol 80 c1869
94. Mr. LEWIS HASLAM

asked the Minister of Munitions whether there are several hundreds of men employed at Woolwich in the manufacture of bags for gun charges; whether this work could be done by women; and, if so, will he take steps as soon as possible to release these men for enlistment or for dockyard work or for other work for which women are unfitted?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MUNITIONS DEPARTMENT (Dr. Addison)

My right hon. Friend is now giving careful consideration to the possibility of replacing men by women at the Royal Ordnance Factories on operations which women are capable of performing in instances such as that to which my hon. Friend draws attention. He hopes in this way to be able to release a considerable body of men for other forms of munition work or for service with the Colours.
