HC Deb 29 June 1916 vol 83 c1005
44. Mr. GINNELL

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether the commandant of Lewes detention prison has called the untried Irish prisoners there traitors and rebels; and, if so, will he say what tribunal has investigated their cases in their absence and come to that decision?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Tennant)

It seems almost hopeless to expect that the hon. Member will verify his facts before he puts questions. This matter has been inquired into, and I find it is not the case that any of these untried men were called traitors and rebels. The second part of the question does not, therefore, arise.
