HC Deb 29 June 1916 vol 83 cc1010-1
24. Mr. WATT

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty whether the manager of the Government torpedo factory at Greenock is a German; and, if not, whether he proposes to take any action in regard to statements made about the manager under the Defence of the Realm Act?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

The manager of the Naval Torpedo Factory at Greenock is not a German, and no statements to the effect that he is a German have been brought to the notice of the Admiralty.

Mr. WATT

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that a statement such as this was made at a meeting attended by 5,000 people in Glasgow, and will he contradict it?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I do.
