§ 26. Mr. CURRIEasked the Comptroller of the Household, as representing the National Health Insurance Commis- 1012 sioners, whether he is in a position to give an assurance that the date on' which the process of valuation of approved societies will be begun will not be later than, say, this day two months hence?
Mr. ROBERTSThe answer is in the negative. I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to a question on this subject on the 4th January last, and to my statement on the 20th instant.
§ 27. Mr. CURRIEasked whether the Lords of the Treasury, in their letter stating that the impracticability of further Exchequer Grants must be taken as a fixed point in all calculations regarding the relief of valuation deficiencies of approved societies, were referring to women's societies alone or dealing with societies generally; and, if the latter, whether they had at their disposal evidence other than the Ryan Report?
§ Mr. MONTAGUThe decision referred to by the hon. Member applies to approved societies generally and is based on general financial considerations. It was arrived at before the appointment of the Departmental Committee, and for that reason the question of further Exchequer Grants was expressly excluded from the terms of reference of that Committee.
