HC Deb 01 June 1916 vol 82 cc2875-6
55. Mr. PETO

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the many incomplete and misleading reports of evidence taken before the Hardinge Commission, he intends to have issued a correct and official verbatim Report of the evidence?

The PRIME MINISTER

Yes, Sir, it is intended to publish such a Report of the public sittings.

Mr. DILLON

Has the right hon. Gentleman considered the question put the other day, and his promise to communicate with the Commission as to what would be done with regard to the private documents and private evidence given to the Commission which may and probably does affect Members of this House?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have not yet been able to make that communication.

Mr. PETO

Will the Report be presented to the House in the form of a White Paper?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Report of a Royal Commission is presented by the Royal Commission.

Mr. DEVLIN

Was there ever a Royal Commission held before whose evidence was taken in private?

The PRIME MINISTER

Yes. There have been many Commissions of the kind.
