HC Deb 01 June 1916 vol 82 c2920
71. Mr. E. HARVEY

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that male telegraph learners in receipt of 12s. per week are being fully employed on the work of telegraphists and of counter clerks and telegraphists; whether he is aware that these young men have to spend more than 50 per cent. of their wages on the purchase of mid-day meals; and whether, having regard to the lack of prospects and to the fact that the Post Office is saving the difference between the wage of a learner and that of a fully-qualified clerk, he will see that they are paid at least the minimum of the scale authorised for established officers?

Mr. PEASE

I am making inquiries and will communicate with the hon. Member as soon as possible.
