HC Deb 31 July 1916 vol 84 cc2052-3
34. Sir ROBERT PEARCE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture whether it is possible to take any steps to prevent the cutting down of trees in Dovedale, to the detriment of its natural beauty?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Acland)

The Board much regret that the owner has thought it desirable to fell trees over some fifty acres in this district, but they are hopeful that further felling will be avoided as a result of the representations which they understand are now in course of being made in the matter.

Mr. THOMAS

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the very strong resentment in Derbyshire at this wilful destruction?

Mr. ACLAND

I am. The Board have been trying to indicate where similar wood can be obtained without spoiling beautiful places at Dovedale.
