§ 39. Major NEWMANasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the sum of £15 per annum and £2 10s. per annum each for her five children until they reach the age of fourteen is the total amount that will be received by the wife and family of Sergeant Rowe, who was shot by a republican during the recent rebellion; whether this sum represents the total amount that will be received by Mrs. Rowe and her children; and, if not, can he say that the total amount is equal to what would be received by the wife and five children of a sergeant of the Regular forces killed in action?
Mr. SAMUELThe provision mentioned in the hon. and gallant Member's question is the maximum which might in the ordinary course be granted to the family of the late Head Constable Rowe, except that the allowance for each child is payable until he or she reaches the age of fifteen. In view, however, of the circumstances in which the head constable met his death, the Treasury have approved of a pension and allowances at double these rates being granted to his widow and children, and provision has been made accordingly in an Estimate presented to Parliament on the 17th instant. In all the cases of deaths of married policemen arising out of the rebellion similar increases will be allowed.
§ Major NEWMANWill the right hon. Gentleman answer the last part of the question?
