HC Deb 31 July 1916 vol 84 cc2083-4
89. Mr. O'GRADY

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether his attention has been called to the fact that children under sixteen years of age are brought into the ordinary Police Court in Aberdeen for trivial offences; and whether, having regard to the provisions of the Children's Act and to the fact that such proceedings bring children in direct contact with serious adult crime, and of the pain thus caused to parents, whether steps will be taken to establish in Aberdeen Courts for children, in accordance with the provisions of the Act dealing with juvenile offenders?

Mr. TENNANT

I am informed that in Aberdeen full effect is given to the provisions of the Children Act relating to Juvenile Courts, and that except in cases where children are charged jointly with adults, cases affecting children are dealt with in special Children's Courts at times other than the ordinary Police Court sittings.
