90. Mr. C. WASONasked the Secretary for Scotland if he is aware that certain agricultural labourers have been called up for 2nd August, and that the services of such men in some cases are indispensable for the skilled work of the farm; and if, in view of the fact that the War Office have signified their assent to such persons getting additional furlough for the harvest subject to the approval of the Scottish Agricultural Board, he will make known the terms on which such additional furlough is to be obtained?
§ Mr. TENNANTI am not aware whether any indispensable agricultural labourers have been called up for the date mentioned, but I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer he received from the Financial Secretary to the War Office on Tuesday last, which indicated that the question of suspending the calling up of individuals would, in certain cases, be considered on their merits by the military authorities, with whom I propose to confer on the question of giving greater publicity to the arrangements.
