HC Deb 20 July 1916 vol 84 cc1169-70
45. Lord HUGH CECIL

asked the Prime Minister whether an opportunity will be given to discuss the Motion relating to the Report of the Royal Commission on the rebellion in Ireland, of which notice has been given by a large number of Members?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)

I have consulted my colleagues, and we think that in view of the urgency of other business it is not possible to give an opportunity at present; but if there is anything in the nature of a general desire for such a discussion, we shall of course, in accordance with the usual practice, do our best to satisfy it.

Lord H. CECIL

May I ask the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the House of Lords have already had an opportunity of discussing this Report, and does he not think it very desirable that this House should also have an opportunity?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am most anxious that we should have an opportunity.

Mr. DILLON

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman, whether he can ask the Commissioners, without further delay, to publish the evidence on which they base the Report?

Mr. GWYNNE

Could not the right hon. Gentleman arrange to take this discussion on a Friday as an extra day?

The PRIME MINISTER

I do not think that would be convenient.
