54. Major GUINNESSasked the Prime Minister whether he will now publish Reports and correspondence relating to the visit of Lord Haldane to Berlin in February, 1912?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI regret that the conditions governing this matter have in no way changed since I replied to a question on this subject put by my hon. Friend the Member for the Luton Division on the 24th November last.
Major GUINNESSHave not the documents in question been shown by Lord Haldane to some of his friends, and is it not unfair to him to withhold them from publication in view of the unfavourable conclusions drawn from the policy of concealment?
§ Mr. PRINGLEIn view of the expressed desire of Lord Haldane that the matter should be dealt with publicly, cannot the Government modify their view?
§ Mr. GWYNNEWhen will we get the Papers?
§ Sir F. BANBURYIs it not the fact that Lord Haldane has expressed a desire that these Reports and communications should be made public as soon as possible, and, if that is so, will the right hon. Gentleman oblige his Friend?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI will consult my Noble Friend on the subject.
§ Mr. LEIF JONESIs it not the desire of Lord Haldane that these Papers should be published, and if they are being held back is it not for other reasons?
§ The PRIME MINISTERI will consult him.
