HC Deb 20 July 1916 vol 84 c1183
59. Mr. HAZLETON

asked the Prime Minister why no representative of Ireland has been given a place on the Committee appointed to consider the commercial and industrial problems arising after the War?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Committee was not formed on any basis of national or local representation. No question therefore arises of including representatives of the various parts of the United Kingdom as such.

Mr. J. REDMOND

Does the right hon. Gentleman not think that Ireland is entitled to representation upon this Committee?

The PRIME MINISTER

The appointments were not based on national considerations at all, but rather upon the personal qualifications of the various members.

Mr. REDMOND

In view of the industrial condition of Ireland, surely Ireland ought to be represented?

The PRIME MINISTER

If the hon. Member will suggest somebody from Ireland, I will consider it.
