HC Deb 20 July 1916 vol 84 cc1175-6
41. Mr. CROOKS

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the licence to admit by parcel post consignments of bulbs from other countries is having an injurious effect on the home trade, inasmuch as trade can now be done directly with Dutch nurserymen which was formerly done at home; and whether further consideration will be given to the whole matter with a view to safeguarding the interests of the horticultural trade of this country?

Mr. HARCOURT

Instructions have now been given to the Customs to treat imports of bulbs from Holland and Scandinavia through the post as covered by the general prohibition of importation imposed by the Proclamation of the 10th May.
