HC Deb 20 July 1916 vol 84 c1176
42. Mr. HOUSTON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the British steamers recently purchased on behalf of the Australian Commonwealth, have been or will be transferred from the register of the United Kingdom to that of Australia; and, if the transfer is effected, whether these steamers will be relieved from the payment of Excess Profits Tax and Income Tax to the British Exchequer?

Mr. HARCOURT

The registry of these vessels has not been transferred to Australia, and I am not in a position to say whether the transfer will or will not be made. The question as to taxation is a matter for the Treasury.
