HC Deb 18 July 1916 vol 84 c819
2. Mr. KING

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the British Government has demanded of the French or Italian Governments that British subjects of military age resident in France or Italy, respectively, should be returned to this country in order to undergo military training here?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Forster)

His Majesty's Government is at present discussing with the French Government the question whether it is possible to take measures to make the Military Service Act applicable to unattested British subjects of military age resident in France. No communication has been addressed to the Italian Government.

Mr. KING

Is it intended to address a communication to the Italian Government, so that all the Allied countries may be on the same basis?

Mr. FORSTER

I think that is being considered.
