HC Deb 05 July 1916 vol 83 c1503
87. Mr. THOMAS

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that, in the case of Post Office telegraphists, all unattested men, regardless of age or seniority, are being released for military service, whilst attested mien are being indiscriminately retained; and, having regard to the desirability of the Government setting an example of fair treatment in the release of men for the Army, whether he will see that no difference is made as regards recruiting between attested and unattested men and, in order to avoid any danger of victimisation or injustice, that junior men be released first, seniority to be the important factor when deciding what men shall be retained in the service of the Post Office?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Pike Pease)

The answer to this question was given in the course of the Debate on the Post Office Estimates, last Monday, and in accordance with the pledge then given, my right hon. Friend is communicating with the War Office.
