§ 88. Mr. THOMASasked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that certain railway companies refuse to grant facilities to employés who have been appointed members of Military Service Tribunals to enable them to attend the meetings of these bodies, and that such action has the effect of defeating the legal right of labour to representation; and whether, therefore, he will communicate with the railway companies and urge that in this matter every facility possible should be given to the few employés concerned to enable them to perform their duties on the Military Service Tribunals?
§ Mr. HAYES FISHERMy right hon. Friend has only heard of two complaints of this kind, and he is in communication with the railway company concerning them. I have ground for saying that the companies do not wish to stand in the way of their men acting as members of Military Service Tribunals where the attendance at the tribunals will not seriously interfere with their railway work.
§ 89. Mr. HOGGEasked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that the decisions of many Appeal Tribunals which sit in public do not announce their decisions publicly; and whether he can see his way to give instructions that they should do so?
§ Mr. HAYES FISHERIt is not obligatory on tribunals to announce their decisions in public; my right hon. Friend does not think it necessary to issue any directions on the matter.
