HC Deb 05 July 1916 vol 83 c1501
22. Mr. WATT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether his Department has made an arrangement with tribunals throughout the country that working plumbers of over twenty-five years of age are not to be called up until, at the earliest, 10th October, in view of the fact that very few of these men now remain to perform the work necessary for the community?

Mr. TENNANT

No such arrangement has been made. On 1st March the Reserved Occupations Committee heard evidence from a full deputation of the Institute of Plumbers and the United Operative Plumbers' Association and decided that there would be no necessity to give any special protection to plumbers by way of reservation beyond that which plumbers engaged on munitions work or in public utility services obtain. The Committee since that date has not found any reason to lead them to consider that there is any necessity for further action.
