HC Deb 12 January 1916 vol 77 c1597
40. Mr. WING

asked the Postmaster-General if he will consider the advisability of suspending the Sunday delivery of letters throughout the United Kingdom, with a view to relieving the strain on the depleted postal staff?

Mr. PIKE PEASE

The matter is under consideration at the present time.

Colonel ALAN SYKES

Will the hon. Gentleman take into consideration the fact, as so many people have relatives abroad, that if you take away one day's post, it gives them a great deal of extra anxiety?

Mr. PEASE

I understand that.

Mr. KING

If this proposal is carried through, can it be arranged that people shall call for their letters at the post offices on Sunday mornings?

Mr. PEASE

No; I am afraid that would be impossible.
