HC Deb 12 January 1916 vol 77 cc1596-7
39. Mr. FARRELL

asked the Postmaster-General whether he has sanctioned the closing of several local post offices in county Longford; and, if so, on what grounds; and whether, before proceeding with this policy, he will consult local people whose business it will interfere with whether these offices ought to be kept going or not?

The ASSISTANT POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. Pike Pease)

Two sub-post offices in county Longford have been closed, as the business done was far from sufficient to justify the cost of maintaining the offices even under normal conditions. I can assure the hon. Member that postal facilities are not withdrawn without due regard to local requirements.

Mr. FARRELL

Is it intended to pursue this policy any further?

Mr. PEASE

If the hon. Gentleman likes to communicate with the Post Office the matter will be further considered.
