HC Deb 12 January 1916 vol 77 cc1591-2
31. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether a soldier who has purchased his discharge and would, but for that, have been serving until 1917, can be called up under the provisions of the Military Service (No. 2) Bill; and, if so, whether the purchase money would be refunded?

Mr. TENNANT

As the Bill now stands, I think that such men would be liable. The question of the refund of purchase money in such cases is being considered.

Mr. HOGGE

Will the right hon. Gentleman make an announcement on this point, because obviously it is fair that the applicant should know that?

Mr. TENNANT

Yes, I will give the earliest indication.
