HC Deb 10 January 1916 vol 77 c1281
42. Sir J. LONSDALE

asked the Under- Secretary of State for War if he is aware that officers and men who are brought over on leave from Boulogne to Folkestone by the afternoon boat frequently arrive in London too late to proceed to their homes the same night; and if, in order to mitigate this hardship, he will give instructions that, as far as possible, the morning boat shall be available for others besides colonels and officers of the Staff?

Mr. TENNANT

The hon. Baronet is, I think, to some extent misinformed. There is no "morning" boat or "afternoon" boat. The times of arrival of trains in London are entirely dependent on Admiralty orders. In the interests of the safety of our officers and men, it is necessary to refrain from discussing in public the details of this question.
