HC Deb 10 January 1916 vol 77 c1274
58. Sir J. LONSDALE

asked the Under- Secretary of State for War if the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, as the chief recruiting officer, has reported to the War Office the results of his recent recruiting campaign; if the results of that campaign meet the requirements of the military authorities; and if he will consider the desirability of applying the group system of attestation to Ireland?

Mr. TENNANT

The Lord Lieutenant, as Director-General of Recruiting in Ireland, is in close touch with the War Office on the subject of the recruiting campaign inaugurated by His Excellency, which is still in progress. At this stage I. am not in a position to say more than that the measure of success so far achieved gives good reason for the expectation that His Excellency's hopes will not be disappointed. I believe a Report will shortly be issued. As has already been publicly announced, the introduction of the system of deferred enlistment obtaining in Great Britain is not at present contemplated.
