HC Deb 10 January 1916 vol 77 cc1260-1
6. Sir J. LONSDALE

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will lay upon the Table of the House a list of businesses established in this country known to be owned principally or wholly by alien enemies, and which are being officially supervised by the Board?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD Of TRADE (Mr. Runciman)

I would refer the hon. Baronet to my answer to the hon. Member for Ealing on the 6th January.

Sir J. LONSDALE

Is the right hon. gentleman aware that it is the practice of these firms to disguise their enemy character, and is not the public entitled to the protection which publicity would give them?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

So far as the administration of the Trading With the Enemy Act is concerned there is nothing to prevent our taking action.
