§ 26. Mr. WINGasked the Postmaster General what remedy he proposes for the repayment of lost postal orders and remittances to our troops which they do not receive arising from disasters at sea or other causes?
Mr. SAMUELPayment is made in respect of lost postal orders and money orders by means of duplicate orders on production of evidence sufficient to identify the lost orders. In the case of postal orders the production of the counterfoil is necessary. The Post Office cannot accept any responsibility for the loss of money sent to the troops in any other form when the loss is due to causes beyond control.
§ 27. Mr. WINGasked the Postmaster-General if he is aware of the non-delivery of numbers of letters and parcels to our soldiers in the East, involving anxiety and financial loss to the senders and worry and misunderstanding in the minds of intended recipients; and will he say what steps are being taken to remedy this state of things?
Mr. SAMUELI would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave on the 24th of November to the hon. Member for South Monmouthshire, a copy of which I am sending him.
