HC Deb 06 January 1916 vol 77 cc1086-7
94. Mr. WING

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if he is aware of the hardship imposed on parents, and especially widows, whose sons were apprentices or at educational institutions as recipients of scholarships previous to the outbreak of war, and for whom, when their sons take military service, are surprised to find no allowance is made; and will he say to what source of relief such can apply where the circumstances are those of urgent need?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Forster)

As regards apprentices I can add nothing to the reply given to the hon. Member for Falkirk Burghs on the 26th October last, of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy. In cases of urgent need application should be made to the Sailors' and Soldiers' Families Association.

Mr. WING

May I ask if the War Office recognises the generosity under such circumstances?

Mr. FORSTER

Oh, yes.
