HC Deb 23 February 1916 vol 80 cc697-8
70. Major HUNT

asked the Minister of Munitions whether glycerine has been commandeered by the Government; what price per ton the Government pays British manufacturers for glycerine; and what price per ton the Government pays Americans for glycerine bought from that country?

Dr. ADDISON

All glycerine produced in this country is requisitioned for national purposes. A statement as to the prices paid would not be in the public interest. No glycerine is being bought from America by the Ministry of Munitions.

Major HUNT

Is there any glycerine brought from any country besides that?

Dr. ADDISON

I am not prepared to give any further details; we have made a very good bargain.

Mr. MOONEY

Have the prices paid in this country and in America, as already stated in this House, been mentioned by a firm of soap manufacturers?

Dr. ADDISON

I do not know whether it has been stated or not.
