HC Deb 23 February 1916 vol 80 c671
9. Mr. PRATT

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what was the extent of the Colonial Possessions of the German Empire at the time of the outbreak of War; and the extent of such territories now in the occupation of the Allies?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The extent of the Colonial Possessions of the German Empire before the War was between 1,100,000 and 1,150,000 square miles. The amount of territory in the hands of the Allies is slightly over 730,000 square miles. The area of German East Africa accounts for the remainder.
