HC Deb 23 February 1916 vol 80 cc693-4
60. Sir J. D. REES

asked whether the prohibition of the exportation from Switzerland of cotton yarns and other forms of cotton applies to cotton thread and cotton materials sent over the frontier to the Austrian Vorarlberg, and subsequently reimported as manufactured goods; and whether immediate inquiry will be made by His Majesty's Government, if it is not in a position now to reply, in view of the importance of the matter to British manufacturers?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

All cotton going to Switzerland is required to be consigned to the Société Suisse de Surveillance Economique, and under the regulations of the Société no such cotton or goods made therefrom can be sent to the Vorarlberg for manufacture and subsequent reimportation.
