HC Deb 23 February 1916 vol 80 cc681-2
76. Major NEWMAN

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether the list of certified employments under the terms of the Military Service Act is at present being amended and largely curtailed by a Committee sitting at the War Office; and whether he will issue a recommendation to the local tribunals that they should at present not give exemption to any applicant in a certified employment for more than one month?

Mr. TENNANT

I have no knowledge of a Committee stated to be sitting at the War Office amending and largely curtailing the list of certified occupations. A War Office representative sits upon the Committee which deals with reserved occupations, and, as stated in the official paper dealing with certified employments, this list is subject to revision and cannot be regarded as final.

Major NEWMAN

Is the list of reserved employments being curtailed or is it not at present?

Mr. TENNANT

I do not like to answer that without notice. I imagine it is, but I do not know.
