HC Deb 21 February 1916 vol 80 c426
55. Mr. CATHCART WASON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that it is practically impossible for soap manufacturers under existing war conditions to compete with outside competition; and, in view of the fact that such articles as toilet soaps, shaving soaps, dental creams, etc., are distinctly articles of luxury, whether he will either prohibit their entry or place 100 per cent. duty thereon?

Mr. McKENNA

I have received communications in regard to the statement made in the first part of the question. For the rest I fear I am unable to anticipate the next Financial Statement.
