§ 41. Mr. WILLIAM YOUNGasked the Secretary for Scotland whether his attention has been drawn to the publication of the Report of Sir Harry Verney's Committee on the settlement of ex-soldiers and ex-sailors on the land; whether he has instituted or will institute a similar committee for Scotland; and whether he will urge upon the Government the urgency of making a Grant for the carrying out of a wide scheme of land settlement on similar lines in Scotland?
Mr. McKINNON WOODMy attention has been drawn to that Report. The subject will doubtless be considered by the Government as affecting the whole country, and Scotland will not be over looked.
§ Mr. HOGGEWould it not be better to amend the Smallholders Act for Scot land, and make it effective?
Mr. McKINNON WOODMy hon. Friend has a peculiar and extensive acquaintance with the history of that Act, and he can judge for himself how far the matter is likely to be non-controversial.
Mr. McKINNON WOODAs at present advised I do not see the necessity for it, but I have asked the Board of Agriculture to consider the Report of the Committee.
