§ 84. Mr. PETOasked the President of the Board of Trade whether, seeing that fatalities and the cause of them arising amongst the officers and men of the merchant service must be reported to the Board of Trade, he will now issue an official roll of honour bearing upon it the names of those officers and men of the merchant service who have lost their lives through the operations of the War?
Mr. ROBERTSI find that this question was raised by the hon Gentleman in January last, and it was not then found possible to adopt his suggestion. I will go into the matter and see whether it is now possible to take steps in the direction which he suggests.
§ 85. Mr. PETOasked the President of the Board of Trade whether, as regards the historical records of the War, the Board of Trade are preserving all the information at their command bearing upon the services to the country rendered by the merchant service and by those engaged in it; whether the co-operation of the Admiralty has been sought for in this respect or is being undertaken separately by them; and, if not, whether he will consider the desirability of taking steps of the kind?
Mr. ROBERTSThe information to which the hon. Gentleman refers is preserved and every effort is made to make it as complete as possible. The Board of Trade are in constant communication with the Admiralty with regard to the services rendered by officers and men of the merchant service.
