HC Deb 14 December 1916 vol 88 c817
20. Mr. LYNCH

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he has considered that the agricultural producers of Ireland could be greatly increased if the provisions of the Land Act of 1909 were realised with as little delay as possible; and whether, in view of the fact that the Congested Districts Board and the Estates Commissioners have had certain estates in West Clare in hand for years without settling the business, he will take steps to carry out the purpose of the Land Act of 1909 with the least possible delay?

Mr. DUKE

The Congested Districts Board inform me that they have dealt as rapidly as their available resources permitted with the preparation of estates in West Clare purchased by them for resale, and that the great majority of these estates have been sold or are ready for sale. In so far as estates in county Clare are pending for sale to the Estates Commissioners, I am told that they are being dealt with as rapidly as possible.

Mr. LYNCH

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that in West Clare I, myself, could have done as much in six months as all these gentlemen combined have done in six years?
