HC Deb 08 August 1916 vol 85 cc849-50
88. Mr. O'GRADY

asked the Minister of Munitions whether his attention has been called to a resolution of the Leeds Trades and Labour Council, passed at their meeting on 26th July, to the effect that a uniform rate of pay on all classes of Government contract work should be demanded, including the work done upon shell-bags, and that the Minister of Munitions should institute an inquiry regarding the disparity now obtaining in shell-bag making in Leeds; whether he is aware that a delegate stated at the meeting that reductions in the prices of shell-bag making were taking place every day in Leeds, and that there had been no less than five disputes in the week prior to the meeting; and whether, having regard to the irritation thus caused to the workers by the action of employers, an inquiry into the matter will be undertaken at once?

Dr. ADDISON

My attention had not previously been called to this resolution. I am making inquiries in the matter, and will communicate with my hon. Friend in due course.
