HC Deb 02 August 1916 vol 85 c308
48. Mr. RENDALL

asked what action the Government proposes to take on the resolution passed by the National Insurance Acts Committee to the effect that permanent disablement and serious illness, greatly injuring the State, are being caused by reason of the fact that insured persons suffering from venereal diseases are refused sickness benefit and medical attention under the National Insurance Act?

Mr. C. ROBERTS (Comptroller of the Household)

The Prime Minister has asked me to reply to this question. I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by me to the hon. Member for Oldham on the 31st July, but I should like to point out that he is mistaken in supposing that persons suffering from venereal diseases are refused medical attention under the National Insurance Act. Section 14 (4) of the Act of 1911 precludes an insured person from being deprived of medical benefit on that ground.
