HC Deb 02 August 1916 vol 85 cc308-9
75. Mr. TICKLER

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that the outdoor officers of the Board of Trade mercantile marine are only being paid from 25s. to 32s. per week; and will he consider an immediate grant of an increase either by the way of a war bonus or a permanent advance to cover the increased cost of living?

Mr. HARCOURT

The pay of most of these officers is on a scale rising to 32s. a week, but there are higher posts rising to 41s. a week, with additional appointments above those scales, and a number of promotions were made in 1915. The point to which the hon. Member refers has not been overlooked and is still receiving consideration.
