HC Deb 02 August 1916 vol 85 c278
1. Sir BERTRAM FALLE

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty if he is aware that in Portsmouth Dockyard there is practically no overtime worked in the directorate of works, while all other departments of the dockyard are working overtime; and if he can remedy a state of affairs which falls heavily on the poorer ratings?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

At present approximately 63.8 per cent, of the total number of workmen in the Director of Works Department, Portsmouth Dockyard, are employed on overtime. The matter has been receiving the careful attention of the Board of Admiralty and everything is being done, subject to the needs of the Service, to adjust and distribute overtime work.
