HC Deb 02 August 1916 vol 85 cc313-4
93. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Minister of Munitions whether he is yet in a position to find employment for the 200 men offered to him by the Dublin Port and Docks Board; and if he will have inquiries made as to whether the port of Dublin can be continued successfully without these men?

Dr. ADDISON

I am in correspondence with the Dublin Port and Docks Board on the subject referred to in the hon. Member's question. No decision has as yet been come to.

Mr. BYRNE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the engineering firms in Dublin who build machinery for the manufacture of munitions are closed down, and, having regard to that fact, cannot he give the Dublin Port and Docks Board a definite answer, and not allow them to dismiss their men on the pretence of loyalty?

Dr. ADDISON

We wrote to the Dublin Port and Docks Board in response to their statement, and we have not had a reply.
