HC Deb 23 September 1915 vol 74 cc574-5
9. Mr. RAMSAY MACDONALD

asked the Home Secretary whether any inspection has been made recently of factories and workshops in Earl Shilton and Barwell; whether that examination revealed, in most of the factories inspected, grave sanitary defects; and whether it is proposed to have a reinspection without delay in order to secure that the complaints made have been attended to?

Mr. BRACE

Yes, an inspection was recently made of a number of factories in these places, and certain sanitary defects discovered. The defects relate to matters within the jurisdiction of the district councils, and notices were at once sent to the council whose duty it is to have the defects remedied. The matter will be followed up and further inspection made very shortly.
