HC Deb 23 September 1915 vol 74 cc551-2
27. Sir H. CRAIK

asked the hon. Member for the Doncaster Division, as representing the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, whether the Commissioners have recently required certain repairs and renewals falling due by customs or by the terms of lease to be carried out at once; and whether arrangements will be made in present circumstances to save expenditure and labour by postponing all but the most urgent repairs and especially such things as painting and decorative repairs?

Sir CHARLES NICHOLSON

The Commissioners do not call upon their lessees to execute repairs or renewals at any customary periods. There are at present some few cases in which their agents have notified lessees of repairs required, but they are not in any case pressing for the execution of anything, but urgent repairs.

Sir H. CRAIK

Would the Commissioners, instead of encouraging, rather restrain this expenditure at present?

Sir C. NICHOLSON

Urgent repairs must be executed.
