HC Deb 21 September 1915 vol 74 cc324-5
92. Colonel YATE

asked the Secretary of State for India if he can give any information as to the inroads into Mekran, in the Baluchistan province of India, by Persian raiders from Persion territory, which are said to have been driven out again by the Mekran Levy Corps; and whether steps will now be taken by the Government of India to increase the strength of the Mekran Levy Corps, with a view to a more adequate protection of the frontier and the due punishment of these Persian raiders?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I think the incident to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers is an inroad into British Baluchistan by a force of Persian Baluchis from the direction of Bampur at the end of June. The raiders were driven out with heavy loss by the Mekran Levy Corps. Since that date another raid has been threat-end, but, as far as I am aware, it has not taken place. The strength of the Mekran Levy Corps was increased last year, and a further increase was sanctioned last month.
