HC Deb 20 October 1915 vol 74 c1776
21. Lieut. - Commander WEDGWOOD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he can give the name of the officer responsible for censoring Mr. Buchan's dispatch, and referred to by the Home Secretary in his letter to the Press as being a military officer in France?

Mr. TENNANT

I do not think that it would be in accordance with correct practice to state in this House and thereby to surround with publicity the names of subordinate officers who might be regarded as having made mistakes.

Mr. HOGGE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether we pay this officer or not?

Mr. TENNANT

Yes, Sir, I suppose that is so.

Mr. HOGGE

Then are we not entitled to know something about it?

Mr. TENNANT

I think it would be very undesirable.
