HC Deb 20 October 1915 vol 74 cc1781-2
36. Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office if his attention has been called to the case of Private Arthur Holroyd, No. 2,288, 2/4th Yorkshire Regiment, who, whilst in hospital, had 7d. per day stopped from his pay, also 1½d. per week contribution under the National Insurance Act; and will he state whether these stoppages from a soldier's pay are in accordance with Army Regulations?

Mr. FORSTER

I am inquiring into this case, and will inform the hon. Member the result as soon as possible.

Mr. HOGGE

Is it the rule to follow the practice mentioned?

Mr. FORSTER

I understand that when a man goes to hospital, the stoppages are deducted as a matter of course, until the medical certificate is received from the commanding officer showing that the stoppages are not to be made.

Mr. HOGGE

Is that the case with all other Civil servants?

Mr. FORSTER

I am not responsible.
