HC Deb 20 October 1915 vol 74 c1782
39. Mr. CHARLES DUNCAN

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether he is aware that a war bonus has been given to the first and second-class examiners in the Army Inspection Department from the 17th April, while a similar award to the third-class examiners and other employés is dated from the 15th September; and whether he will give directions, in order to avoid discontent, that the war bonus shall be paid from the same date to all the employés in the Army Inspection Department?

The MINISTER of MUNITIONS (Mr. Lloyd George)

The bonus, in the case of the first and second-class examiners, was given as a sequence to an agreement which was come to by the London engineering trades generally, and was dated back to the 17th April, in keeping with the general trade agreement. The bonus, in the case of the other employés, has been given as the result of a special conference of delegates with me, held during the past month, and had no connection directly with a trade agreement. I do not think there is any ground for altering the decision to give the latter bonus only as from the beginning of the pay week in which the 15th September occurs.
