HC Deb 20 October 1915 vol 74 c1799
77. Mr. CLANCY

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) whether his attention has been directed to the resolution passed by the county of Dublin Insurance Committee relative to what is described as the grave danger to the purity of the milk supply and the consequent results to the health of the community, especially of the young, caused by the withdrawal of the Bovine Tuberculosis Order; whether he will say on whose advice and for what reasons the Order mentioned was withdrawn; and whether any local authority was consulted in reference to the matter before action was decided on by the Department?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Birrell)

The resolution referred to was received by the Department. All provisions of the Order save one have been suspended in Ireland as they have been in Great Britain, and for the same reason, namely, retrenchment of expenditure owing to the financial position arising from the War. The local authorities were not consulted before the suspension, but a circular fully explanatory of the position was sent to each local authority by the Department.
