HC Deb 20 October 1915 vol 74 cc1793-4
80. Mr. ANDERSON

asked the Minister of Munitions whether his attention has been directed to the case of Lawrence Nut-brown, a Sheffield wireworker, engaged on aeroplane work, who applied to the Munitions Court for a leaving certificate, on the ground that the firm had reduced his status from that of a skilled worker to that practically of a labourer, and had reduced his wage by 12s. per week; is he aware that the workman's application was refused by the Court; and, provided that this decision is not a violation of the Munitions of War Act, will he introduce amending legislation to deal with firms which, not requiring the services of a particular skilled workman themselves, deliberately prevent him from doing his best work for the benefit of another firm?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I do not think that the question states accurately the circumstances of this case, and I am accordingly sending the hon. Member a fuller summary for his perusal. In the circumstances, I doubt if the last part of the question arises.
