HC Deb 12 October 1915 vol 74 c1181
20. Mr. PATRICK WHITE

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what difficulty stands in the way of establishing a testing and receiving emporium in Dublin for fabrics used by the Government Departments where samples of the various materials can be obtained?

Mr. FORSTER

A fully equipped depot and storehouse has not hitherto been established in Dublin because it did not appear that the heavy expenditure from Army funds would be justified. As I pointed out in answer to a question on the 22nd September, we have already set up a depot for the inspection of certain articles of Irish manufacture and the display of samples, and I am considering if I can extend the arrangement in the manner suggested in the question.

Mr. BRADY

Have not the military authorities in Ireland recommended the establishment of such stores as those indicated in the question?

Mr. FORSTER

We have had certain recommendations from the military authorities in Ireland, but I am not quite prepared to say how far they go.
