HC Deb 12 October 1915 vol 74 cc1187-8
32. Mr. HOHLER

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what is the reason for the delay in the issue of the medal for services in the Persian Gulf, 1909–11, and when the same will be issued and presented to those entitled; will he give a list of His Majesty's ships service on which will entitle the men to receive the medal; and how many of the men who were entitled to receive it are now dead?

Dr. MACNAMARA

The medals for the operations in the Persian Gulf are now in distribution, a notification of the issue, with a list of the ships concerned, having been published in the "London Gazette" of the 1st instant. Of the 7,000 medals awarded, nearly 200 are in respect of the services of officers and men known to have died since. The medals in such cases will be issued to relatives as provided by the Regulations.

Colonel YATE

Has the medal also been issue to the officers and men of the Royal Indian Marine?

Dr. MACNAMARA

That is a matter for the India Office in the first instance. We are in communication with them upon the point.

Colonel YATE

Will the medal be granted?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I think I must await the reply of the India Office upon that point.
